With an attendance of 12,000 spectators in 2015, this one-of-a-kind event in Switzerland brings together artists and digital cultures experts from around the world over the course of ten days. Spread over a dozen venues accross Geneva’s cultural scene, the Mapping Festival activities take various shapes in order to satisfy every audience, from the curious to experimentation lovers: an exhibition, audiovisual performances, club nights, workshops, screenings, free masterclasses…

An important and not to be missed event, the exhibition located at Le Commun (Batiment d’art contemporain, also functioning as the headquarters of the festival ) will open its doors on Thursday, April 28 at 6pm. Artists Refik Anadol, Lawrence & Vincent Malstaf, Nèstor Lizalde, Martin Messier and Kimchi and Chips authored five installations around the theme of immersion. The next day (Friday, April 29), in the Musée d’art et d’Histoire’s courtyard, the public will be able to discover during all evening a light and video-mapping installation created by Romain Tardy, co-founder of the AntiVJ collective and label.

For the first time, on Saturday, May 7 the Mapping Festival will invest the magnificent Alhambra with three audiovisual performances: Seismik by Canadian artist Herman Kolgen, Black Smoking Mirror by Duch artists Gert-Jan Prins and Martijn van Boven, and the much awaited Notel by English composer Kode9 in collaboration with Lawrence Lek.

True to its spirit of community and experimentation, the festival returns with a unique range od six workshops. Both begginers and experts are invited to explore a variety of subjects with an emphasis on new technologies and effervescent creativity, under the guidance of renowned specialists from all over the world: Pfadfinderei, Nicolas Maigret & Maria Roszkowwksa, Playmodes.. In addition to these workshops, the festival enriches its interaction with the audience by proposing a series of masterclasses, lectures and panels, conducted by various guests and specialists. Everyone can thus discover the latest advances in digital audiovisual creation, and meet iconic artists and programmers. These meetings are free, and will take place on the ground floor of Le Commun, the heart of the festival.

A key component of the Mapping Festival, electronic music will be the focus during three eclectic events programmed at the Zoo (Usine), aligning formidable headliners: Shackleton, Rrose, Douglas Greed, Deadbeat, Orphx, Rabih Beaini, Call Super… alongside stage designs made by Bordos. ArtWorks, Staminart & AV Exciters, Alexandre Burdin – Francois and Boris Edelstein. Also at l’Usine, the Spoutnik cinema will welcome new performances by STULTUS (Tomonaga Tokuyama & Wladimir Schall), Paul Prudence and Project Eva (Etienne Grenier & Simon Laroche), and will also propose animated film screenings curated by the Fantoche festival, and director Antoine Viviani presenting his In Limbo movie.
