La Caputxeta Galàctica

[Texto disponível apenas em inglês] La Caputxeta galàctica (Galactic Red Riding Hood) is a live multimedia performance work. It is a multi-disciplinary piece, which harnesses the convergence of different modes of artistic expression to create an innovative and coherent discourse that immerses the viewer – bring- ing us to their original approach to the well-known tale of Little Red Riding Hood.

La Caputxeta Galàctica combines in live performance: performing arts, painting, video and music.

In knowing the audience’s familiarity with the written version of the tale by the Brothers Grimm, Insectotròpics approach the re-invention of this classic by moving closer to the ver- sion by Charles Perrault - morally more sinister.

The show charges each element of the tale with a critical symbolism, to reinforce the sense of the myth of Red Riding Hood as a metaphor for a journey of initiation. Combining this with the contemporary account of the voyage to the moon (taken as the struggle to overcome one’s own limits), the experience transcends to our culture as an exercise in self discovery, in which the only way to discover new and exciting unknown worlds is to journey there first inside ourselves, and let go of whatever link that roots us in our old, limited paradigms. Following this symbolic interpretation, the orders of the Mother (to collect items in a bas- ket) become all of the things that Red Riding Hood must let go of, in order to have enough strength to begin the journey. The forest represents the place where she discovers her indi- vidual potential, the freedom to choose her own path. The Wolf is the wild side, the option to loose the old paradigms. Meanwhile the Grandma represents the limiting traditions that must be ‘devoured’ - the obstacle to be overcome in order to begin the renewal process. Fi- nally, Man’s voyage to the moon is in essence the great challenge for the human race - to be separated from the (Mother) earth for the first time.
