Offcut
[Texto disponível apenas em inglês] If the peatlands could talk, what would they say?

Offcut examines the complexities of our relationship with the natural world and how we disrupt it.
Working with ecologists, geologists and data specialists on an extensive art & ecology lab, artist Rebecca Smith (Urban Projections) spent a 3 month residency responding to the ancient Humber Head Peatlands in the UK. These peatlands, which are made up of 90% water, hold huge quantities of carbon but have been vastly exploited, leading to leaks and a major carbon source. Although global peatlands only occupy 3% of land area across the world, they contain around 25% of soil carbon - twice as much as the world’s forests. ‘Offcut’ examines our relationship to the Peatland landscape, and re-narrates ideas about our past, present and future, with a delve beyond the Anthropocene into deep time.
